What is an Autism Evaluation?
An autism evaluation can help you understand whether you or your child may be on the autism spectrum and determine if there are other co-occurring difficulties. Evaluations provide answers that can bring clarity and help reduce the uncertainty you may be feeling.
For children, these assessments for autism spectrum disorder can explain challenges with communication, social interactions, or behaviors that seem confusing. They also help identify strengths and guide you toward the right support, like speech therapy, occupational therapy, or social skills training.
For adults, an autism evaluation can offer long-awaited clarity and validation, helping explain challenges you may have faced with communication, relationships, or navigating daily life. Understanding how autism impacts you can open the door to tailored support, such as workplace accommodations, therapy, or social skills training, while also highlighting your unique strengths. This insight can bring relief, reduce self-doubt, and help you move forward with greater confidence and self-acceptance.
For parents, the process can feel emotional and overwhelming. You might worry about your child’s future, feel guilty for not seeking answers sooner, or even feel judged by others. These feelings are normal, and you’re not alone.
At Integrated Behavioral Health, our autism assessments are about more than just a diagnosis—they’re about giving you the tools to better understand and support you and your child. With clear answers, you can feel more confident, find the right resources, and build stronger connections within your family. Serving Denver & Greenwood Village, and surrounding communities.
Autism Testing | Denver & Greenwood Village
Comprehensive autism (ASD) testing for toddlers, children, teens, and adults across the Denver metro.
Our licensed psychologists use the two instruments considered the gold standard in autism diagnosis, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R), alongside the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), cognitive (IQ) testing, and measures of adaptive functioning.
Here’s what those names mean when you’re sitting in the room. The ADOS-2 is a structured session of play and conversation where a psychologist works directly with you or your child and observes social communication as it happens, with different formats for a toddler and for an adult. The ADI-R is an in-depth interview with a parent or caregiver about developmental history, which fills in the early years that a single appointment can’t show us. CARS gathers those observations into a structured rating.
No one tool gives you an answer on its own, and we don’t treat any of them that way. A diagnosis comes from a psychologist weighing all of it together, which is why our reports explain the reasoning rather than handing you a score.

Parenting can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re navigating the unknown. Make Sense Of Social & Emotional Challenges
When everyday situations feel like constant hurdles—whether it’s struggling with friendships, sensory overload, or resistance to change, it’s hard not to feel stuck. Autism assessments shine a light on why these challenges happen and how to address them. By understanding what’s behind these behaviors, you can open the door to resources and strategies that make life a little easier for everyone.
Navigate Big Emotions Together
Big feelings, like meltdowns or intense frustration, can leave you and your child feeling drained. Autism assessments in Denver and Greenwood Village help untangle what’s really going on, making it easier to address those overwhelming moments. For kids, it’s about learning to name their feelings and find calm. For parents, it’s about understanding your own triggers and feeling steady even when things get tough. Together, you’ll learn how to respond to emotions with more patience and connection.
Strengthen Family Bonds
Raising a child with suspected autism can put a strain on relationships—whether it’s feeling disconnected from your partner, misunderstood by other parents, or weighed down by past experiences. Autism assessments in Denver and Greenwood Village provide a sense of relief and understanding that can bring families closer. By learning more about your child’s needs, you’ll create space for healing, connection, and a stronger foundation as a family.

You might struggle to find a parenting approach that aligns with your values and helps you feel connected and capable. We’re here to help you understand and meet your child’s unique needs while staying true to yourself.
We support the emotional well-being of parents as individuals too. This includes stress management, identity shifts, relationship strain, and burnout. When caregivers feel supported and grounded, the entire family benefits.
With over a decade of combined experience, we offer therapy and evaluations that are grounded in evidence-based practices, collaborate with professionals and individuals working with your child, and provide comprehensive recommendations to help you or your child thrive. We guide you through handling the toughest challenges, providing you with practical tools and strategies that foster confidence and fulfillment in your journey.
We believe the therapeutic process should be:

Empathetic
Being a parent can feel overwhelming, especially with the flood of information from social media and parenting books. We meet you and your child exactly where you are and offer compassion and empathy to help you move forward.

Evidence-based
Our diverse therapy methods and assessments are all rooted in evidence-based practices. Our goal is to help you and your child make tangible progress and feel empowered to navigate daily life confidently, even beyond therapy.

Values-based
Every family, child, and parent are different. What is okay for one parent is not okay for another parent. We make sure that we understand your family’s values and come alongside to support them rather than prescribing one type of approach to a situation.

Our Approach
How Autism Evaluations Work

Step 1: We Start With A Conversation
It begins with a free 20-minute phone consultation to understand your concerns and goals. We'll walk through cost, give you a good faith estimate in writing, and answer any questions about the process. We're a private-pay practice and don't bill insurance directly, so you'll know the full cost before you commit to anything.

Step 2: We Gather Insight
Next, we’ll have a parent-only intake session to dive deeper into your child’s history and current challenges. We’ll also send questionnaires to parents, teachers, and other professionals working with your child. If needed, we can observe your child at school and talk with teachers to better understand their experience.

Step 3: We Evaluate Thoroughly
Your child will complete testing over two half-day sessions, designed to explore their unique strengths, challenges, and needs. Our psychologist will then analyze the data and create a comprehensive report that integrates all findings.

Step 4: We Provide Recommendations
In a parent feedback session, we’ll walk you through the results and provide personalized recommendations. You’ll receive a detailed report to guide the next steps, and if needed, we can support you with IEP meetings or consultations with your child’s school. Together, we’ll ensure you have the tools and understanding to move forward with confidence.
From your first testing session, you’ll have a comprehensive written report in four to six weeks. Because we don’t keep a waitlist, most families start within a few weeks of their consultation.

Questions About Autism Evaluations
How much does an autism assessment cost?
The cost of an autism evaluation can vary depending on the areas being assessed. For example, if a child is struggling both socially and academically, additional testing may be done to rule out learning disorders. Typically, evaluations range from $3,750 to $4,600. If you’re wondering how to get assessed for autism or have questions about the process, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
We’re a private-pay, out-of-network practice, which means we don’t bill insurance directly. We provide a superbill after your evaluation that you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so we’d suggest calling the number on your card and asking what they reimburse for psychological testing. We can also check your out-of-network benefits for you.
How long does an autism evaluation take?
Testing itself happens over two half-day sessions. From there, you’ll have a comprehensive written report in four to six weeks, followed by a feedback session where we walk you through the results. We don’t keep a waitlist, so most families begin within a few weeks of their free consultation.
How is an autism assessment/evaluation conducted?
Who conducts an autism evaluation?
At Integrated Behavioral Health, licensed psychologists with specialized training in assessing and diagnosing autism handle all evaluations.
What happens after the autism assessment?
Once the assessment or evaluation is complete, you’ll receive a comprehensive report that includes a summary of findings, whether your child meets the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and if so, the level of severity. The report will detail observations, highlight your child’s strengths and challenges, and provide recommendations for therapy, resources, or support services. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled to review the results with you, answer your questions, and discuss the next steps. This might include developing an individualized treatment plan, connecting with resources, or providing guidance on how to best support your child.
How can I prepare my child for the assessment?
Preparing your child can help make the assessment process smoother and more comfortable for them. Maintain their usual routines leading up to the appointment and explain how to prepare for an autism assessment in simple, age-appropriate terms, explaining what will happen throughout the process. Bringing a familiar item, like a favorite toy or blanket, can provide comfort. If your child needs frequent breaks, let the evaluator know in advance. Above all, be patient and understanding—it makes a big difference in helping your child feel at ease.
